The mood sure is upbeat in the Jeyam-Raja camp. Chennai Times catches up with a highly relieved and ecstatic Jeyam post the overwhelming success of SS.
“It’s been one year and three months since my previous film released. I was just waiting for this day!” Ravi jubiliantly begins, “I’ve received so many compliments for my role in SS that I can’t recall which one is the best,” says Ravi.
The movie has received good reviews and the audiences seem to be lapping it up too as Ravi’s visit to Udayam and Mayajaal theatres revealed. Right now though, his clean shaven, ‘boy next door’ look has given way to a rugged one. The cropped hair, beard and moustache is for Peraanmai, his next film where he plays a forest guard. Ravi has been hitting the gym overtime to carve out a lean muscular look. “I will be sporting a beard and moustache for the first time in my career,” he grins. He’s also learnt how to handle weapons and joined the Archery Associaton of India in order to learn archery for the role. He now knows all about Indian, tribal, re-curved and hunting bows and arrows!
Dhaam Dhoom (DD), the dream project of the late cinematographer-director Jeeva will release end May. Ravi gets emotional when he talks about the film, “We all worked hard to complete this film. It’s rich – visually and emotionally. I think I look my all time best in DD,” he reveals.
Ravi is doing a hip hop number in DD and he reveals, “It’s the first time anyone has attempted a pure hip-hop number without the Kollywood masala mix. A Malaysian rapper had done the lyrics while Shobi has done choreography. Ravi sports a hood, metal rings, long dollar chain, loose hip hop denims and loads of attitude in the number. “I watched a lot of hip hop videos to get the correct body language,” says Ravi. But this young actor is not simply resting on his laurels. He’s gearing up for the next schedule of Peraanmai in Thekkady. “My friends have been waiting for a treat since my first movie,” he laughs. “But I haven’t found the time yet,” he signs off.
