Outside of Faizal Tahir’s triumphant showing at the AIM awards, the event also proved that younger Malaysian acts have tremendous crossover potential with multi-lingual offerings.
The writing was on the wall as soon as pop-rock newcomer Faizal Tahir opened the 15th Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) awards show with a stunning performance. By the end of the night, he went home the biggest winner by grabbing four awards including the prestigious album of the year award for his debut album, Aku.Muzik.Kamu. The singer who had courted controversy earlier this year by barring his chest on national TV outdid every other performer as he took to the stage and the air (he was hoisted up by wirework) and left audiences in no doubt what an exciting and powerful new talent we have now in our midst.
And the support for Faizal was more than obvious during the AIM show held last Saturday at Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur as he received the loudest cheers despite there being pockets of loyal fans for Datuk Siti Nurhaliza and Dayang Nurfaizah.
