A police psychologist with more than 30 years’ experience in police crises and training says Canada has been “brainwashed” into buying the Taser along with the justification for its use by its American manufacturer.Michael Webster, who has managed hostage-takings and kidnappings and trained or worked with Vancouver police, RCMP, Europol, the FBI and police in Mexico, Colombia and Australia, levelled a blistering broadside at the growing police use of Tasers in “suspect” and “inappropriate” cases.
Speaking at the Braidwood Inquiry into Taser use in Vancouver yesterday, Webster emphasized he is neither anti-police nor opposed to the proper use of a conducted-energy weapon in highly restricted situations.
